A Rustic & Relaxed Church Wedding with a Family Party at Tredudwell Manor

Charlotte and Jobe came a long way to get married at Tredudwell Manor. The couple live in Thailand, but their roots are Celtic with Welsh and Cornish traditions incorporated into their big day. Their wedding brought together family traditions, music and celebration in a way that felt deeply personal – we loved hosting their wedding! Their day began with a meaningful church wedding in Cornwall, followed by a rustic and relaxed Cornwall barn wedding reception at Tredudwell Manor.

Set within the Cornish countryside and close to the coast, their wedding blended tradition with personality, offering a wonderful example of how a church ceremony and barn reception can flow seamlessly together.

Why did you choose to get married at Tredudwell?

After a stormy start thanks to the Great British weather – “We visited on a stormy day and fell in love with the venue, so we knew that if we loved Tredudwell in the worst possible weather then it could only get even better if the weather improved.”….Charlotte and Jobe were drawn to the flexibility of the barn and the freedom to personalise their reception space. “We loved that we could put our own stamp on the venue and the barn was beautifully decorated with the drapes on the roof. We loved that it was an open area yet the sliding doors that opened to the dance floor still made it feel cosy.”

The open-plan layout meant the energy carried through from day to night: “Because it was one open space our dance floor was filled all night because everyone could see the fun that was being had.”

They also loved the setting, with the Manor House, gardens and nearby coastline offering space to relax and explore with guests.

What kind of ceremony did you choose and why understanding how to plan a church wedding in Cornwall?

The ceremony took place at St Wyllow Church, just a five-minute drive from Tredudwell Manor, making it easy for guests to move from the church to the reception: “We got married in St Wyllow Church as it was important to us and our families to have a religious ceremony. It is the most stunning medieval church with so much history.”

Jobe’s uncle gave a Bible reading in Welsh before translating it into English, reflecting the couple’s Welsh and Cornish roots. As guests arrived, the Polperro Fishermen’s Choir, The Wreckers, sang in the church, setting a powerful and emotional tone to the ceremony.

How did you make the decisions that come with planning a wedding?

Having trusted recommendations and the ability to choose their own suppliers allowed Charlotte and Jobe to create a wedding that felt personal and reflective of their lives together. They said “Hayley was extremely helpful in providing a list of recommended suppliers. Social media such as Rock My Wedding and Pinterest was really useful for inspiration.”

How did you find the planning process with the Tredudwell team?

On the day itself, Charlotte & Jobne felt the support was very helpful – “Hayley was incredible and brilliant at answering any questions. On the day I really felt like she was ‘there but not there’ if that makes sense? She left us to it but popped up to help at the perfect opportunities.”

What did you eat and drink at your Cornwall barn wedding reception?

Catering for the barn wedding reception was by Richard McGeown of Blank Canvas Weddings. The menu reflected the couple’s life in Thailand, beginning with Thai-inspired canapés.

For the main course, guests chose from hake, rump of lamb or risotto, followed by desserts including jam and cream scones, lemon posset and Welsh cakes: “Our guests said it was the best lamb they had ever tasted.” The freedom to choose their own caterer was a key part of planning a reception that felt personal.

Since Charlotte & Jobe got married, we now have our in-house chef who is completely flexible to your wishes – find out more about food & drink at Tredudwell here.

What kind of personal touches did you love adding to your wedding?

Personal details were woven throughout the day. The table plan featured a world map showing countries the couple had visited together. Table names were based on the word “Cheers” in different languages, with guests joining in each time a toast was made.

Handwritten definitions of love by the children Charlotte and Jobe teach were scattered across the tables, alongside chocolate love spoon favours made by the groom’s sister-in-law, inspired by Welsh folklore.

Living in Thailand, the couple also included a coconut shy created by Charlotte’s aunty, with coconuts dressed as members of the bridal party, which quickly became a favourite with guests.

What was your favourite part of the day?

“Either driving from the church to arrive at the venue in the jeep with the roof down and all our guests waiting to greet us or dancing outside on the terrace to the saxophone player.”

Charlotte and Jobe returned from their church ceremony in Charlotte’s uncle’s prized WW2 Jeep before arriving back at Tredudwell to begin the celebrations.

A happy review from the happy couple

“Tredudwell was the perfect wedding venue. Hayley’s communication was incredible from the offset and she was always only a phone call away. The grounds were spectacular and were brilliant for garden games and photos. The terrace and furniture outside the pavilion was perfect for guests to mingle and the pavilion was big but cosy with gorgeous chandeliers and draped material covering the ceiling. It was a 5 minute drive from the most beautiful church, St Wyllow. The Manor House was beautiful to stay in and big enough for our bridal party. We were also able to stay for the day and the night after the wedding which really extended the celebrations.”
