A sophisticated Cornwall wedding at Tredudwell Manor with soft floral details – Sophie & Alvaro

Today on our blog, we are so happy to feature Sophie & Alvaro, who we were lucky to host for their sophisticated Cornwall wedding! As you can see, they had the best day! We asked them lots of useful questions to inspire you when planning your own wedding in Cornwall here at Tredudwell.

Why did you choose to get married at Tredudwell Manor?

“As soon as we walked around the corner of the pavilion for our first visit, the view took our breath away. The green open space with the temple and manor house in the backdrop, and the sea just beyond, was so special. The wedding co-ordinator, Hayley, was very welcoming and helpful. We didn’t feel like we were working to a time limit and spent a long time talking with her about our ideas and dreams for our big day. It soon became apparent that Tredudwell Manor offered a beautiful blank canvas for us to transform into our dream wedding.”

What did you all wear for your sophisticated Cornwall wedding?

“We wanted a sophisticated look to match the venue. Whilst I, as the bride, would usually wear a fitted dress, I wanted to wear something a little different so went for a fuller skirt with a low back with beaded straps. I wore a simple cathedral veil with edging that matched the plain white mikado fabric of my dress. I had my hair in a high, loose and full bun with some ceramic white flowers that matched the flowers my mum wore in her hair.

The bridesmaids wore matching pink floor-length dresses with loose hairstyles of their choice and strappy shoes.

The groom wore a light blue/grey suit with a very faint pink cheque that matched the pink in the bridesmaid’s dresses and flowers. The groomsmen wore dark blue suits with waistcoats that matched the groom’s suit.”

What kind of personal touches did you love adding to your wedding at Tredudwell?

“Whilst we didn’t have a particular theme in mind, we were aiming for soft florals in pinks and whites with glass vases, candelabras etc. to create a romantic atmosphere.

In addition to the fresh flowers provided by our florist and the artificial flowers provided by WithAFlourish, my mum and I created two large hanging floral rings. They took us several months to make but we were super pleased with the result!

It was also important to us to include elements that reflected who we are as a couple. We named the tables after places we had travelled to together and put quiz games on the tables for our guests to play as we love board games and quizzes. In the evening our guests also enjoyed the outdoor garden games on the lawn as the sun set.

Who did your wedding flowers?

“The florist was Suzanne at Honeybee. We had several chats with her to discuss our ideas. The bridesmaids’ bouquets featured pink and white flowers whilst mine was solely white with foliage. The table centre pieces were my favourite – Suzanne provided the candelabras and dressed them with stunning white and pink floral arrangements. The top table had a matching garland along the edge which tied in with the centrepieces. The bridesmaids then placed their bouquets in the glass vases along the length of the top table as the finishing touch. ”

Who made your wedding cake?

“The cake was provided by Niki at Yummycakes Liskeard. We chose a simple 3 tiered semi-naked cake with three different flavours (lemon, white chocolate and salted caramel). Our florist created two small flower arrangements to decorate the cake in keeping with the table centrepieces. The cake was delicious but we were having such a great time on the day that we forgot to try a piece until the morning after!”

What did you eat and drink at your sophisticated Cornwall wedding?

“The caterer we chose for the reception and wedding breakfast was Cornwall Chef. They worked with us to design a menu that was exactly what we were looking for. We wanted to incorporate elements from the meal we had on the evening we got engaged in Iceland along with a Spanish twist, as Álvaro is Spanish. They were able to do just that and so many people commented on how great the food was. At around 9pm, Kernow Forno arrived to serve pizzas to our guests. This was just what we needed to recharge our batteries in preparation for an evening of dancing.”

Who photographed your wedding?

“Our photographer was Stewart Girvan. We first met Stewart via a zoom call and loved his friendly and professional nature. We knew that we wanted our photos to be documentary style and natural which we could see was Stewart’s style from his portfolio.

As part of our package, we had an engagement shoot at Bedruthan Steps on a summer’s evening as the sun was setting. We loved the pictures Stewart took from that initial shoot so it was clear we had made the right decision in choosing Stewart for our big day.

The photos Stewart captured from the wedding day were everything we hoped for. He captured so many emotional moments of guests crying, laughing, joking and dancing which was exactly what we had asked for. A few guests commented that he always seemed to be in the right place at the right time.”

What was the best part of your sophisticated Cornwall wedding?

“This is a difficult question as we enjoyed it all. If we had to choose, there was one part which was completely unplanned but really stands out in our memories. We arrived back from the church a little after our guests and were being driven around the corner of the manor house with the roof down and the sun shining (which was unexpected given the day before!). As we turned the corner in the car, we saw all of our guests dancing on the terrace by the pavilion to the saxophonist with a drink in hand in the sunlight. This moment really took our breath away and is a memory that will last forever – seeing all of our loved ones in one place and having a great time. We walked up the main steps to the pavilion to join our guests with everyone cheering and congratulating us. It was so special.”

Do you have any advice to share with our couples planning their wedding?

“Whilst suppliers do get booked up far in advance, it is also important to ensure you book your preferred suppliers and don’t rush into booking something/someone in a panic. As a result, we would suggest getting organised as early as possible to give you enough time to do your research before paying deposits.

Getting ready in the morning takes much longer than you think. Even with a contingency margin in the timings, we still ended up being late to the church. I would suggest allowing an additional hour on top of what you think you need.”
