Wildflowers, Clifftops and Golden Light: Cornwall Weddings Inspired by Landscape

There’s something about Cornwall that feels like a dream. The kind of place that lingers in your sea-salted memory. Soft golden light through the trees, and a quiet stillness you can feel in your bones. For our couples planning Cornwall weddings, the landscape doesn’t just set the scene. It helps shape the entire experience – that sense of space and freedom you can only find in nature.

At Tredudwell Manor, we’re surrounded by this beauty. Wildflower meadows, ancient trees, views that stretch to the sea. And when a photographer like Dan Ward is behind the lens, you can see the love story unfold in every frame.

We caught up with Dan to hear how Cornwall continues to inspire his work, and why this part of the coast is such a special place to celebrate.

“It feels like stepping into a dream”

What do you love most about photographing weddings in Cornwall, especially at Tredudwell?

“For me, photographing weddings in Cornwall always feels a bit like stepping into a dream. There’s just something so magical about Cornwall that isn’t really anywhere else. It feels like a destination wedding, but right on our doorstep. Venues like Tredudwell really manifest this. One moment you are in the grounds of a beautiful manor house, the next second you are by the coast with rolling fields down to the water. Every time I’m there, I’m reminded why I love what I do.”

How does the Cornish coast, wild meadows, and golden hour light influence your photography style?

“Every time I pick up my cameras to photograph a wedding, I try to approach it with fresh eyes. Never recreating old shots, and really just looking at what’s happening with the light at that moment. With the sea, the coast, the meadows — everything about nature is so changeable all of the time, so I try to photograph things as they are right now. Capturing the feel and the mood of the moment in the photos I take.”

What is the golden hour?

Do you have a favourite spot or moment at Tredudwell that always inspires you to pick up the camera?

“I’ve shot countless couples there as they’re just wandering hand in hand, in the grounds at golden hour, and it never loses its magic. I photographed my last wedding of the year at Tredudwell just last week. There was this moment when the sun starts to set and the whole place just blooms and glows. The golden hour light was just popping over the Manor as E & M took a stroll through the trees towards the pond. That’s always when I get a little extra spark. The gardens just below the house are incredible at that time of day; the light filters through the trees and wraps everything in warmth. It’s hard not to love it — it’s a photographer’s dream!”

From your perspective, what makes Tredudwell such a dream setting for couples planning a coastal wedding?

“Simply put, it’s got the best of everything. It’s posh manor wedding vibes, but it’s down to earth with its barn for the reception. It’s got beautiful grounds, outdoor ceremony space, fields of wildflowers in the spring. Just out the gates and round the corner, you are two seconds from the sea. Tredudwell is relaxed and easy and it changes with you to suit your wedding — and I think this is what makes it such a dream wedding space.”

If you could give one piece of advice to couples getting married in Cornwall about their wedding photos, what would it be?

“Embrace the weather. It’s going to be what it’s going to be, so you just need to roll with it and make it special anyway. Cornwall has this wild, unpredictable beauty that makes it so much fun to shoot weddings in — and these moments often make the most beautiful photos. Let go of the idea of perfection and just enjoy the day fully. The real magic happens when you’re present and having fun!”

Real wedding: Natalie & Ryan’s Outdoor Celebration

Tredudwell often welcomes couples from across the UK and beyond. What do you think makes it such a special place for a destination wedding?

“Tredudwell feels like an escape. It’s in the country and it’s its own little corner of Cornwall. It’s close enough to the coast but it’s tucked away enough that it feels intimate and private. You wouldn’t just stumble on Tredudwell — which is part of its beauty. It feels like you could be somewhere in Europe celebrating your wedding, but it’s infinitely easier to plan.”

Plan your Cornwall wedding when living out of county

In your opinion, what makes a “dream wedding location” and how does Tredudwell embody that for the couples you’ve worked with?

“I’ve photographed quite a few weddings at Tredudwell over the years now — I’m incredibly lucky. Every wedding I shoot there is very unique. So what makes it a dream location in my eyes is how changeable it is to every couple and every wedding. You can choose to do things how you want, the amazing staff will make that happen — and really, this is what makes each wedding there so special. It’s got all the bones for you to craft the day into what you want it to be.”
