The Story behind Tredudwell Manor
The Story behind Tredudwell Manor
With more than 200 years of history, Tredudwell Manor is not only a place of heritage but now home to hundreds of wedding memories too.
The estate has been in our family since 1810, and over the past decade we’ve lovingly brought it back to life – restoring the house, introducing sustainable practices, and building new spaces that welcome couples from all over the world. Our award-winning Cornwall wedding venue story is rich in family legacy, love stories, and a touch of adventure.
1850 - Where it all began
To begin our Cornwall wedding venue story story, at its height, the estate stretched over 14,500 acres. The family seat was once Ethy House in Lerryn, later sold by Justin’s great-aunt. His grandfather, Lieutenant-Colonel Peter Shakerley, chose Tredudwell as his home. The manor house, originally built in 1705, includes sections believed to date back to the 14th century.
Peter made generous contributions to conservation, gifting coastal land to the National Trust and to Project Neptune in the 1950s – including the famous Hall Wall – helping Tredudwell Manor eventually become a coastal wedding venue.
2004 - Opening the doors as a bed & breakfast
When Justin inherited the estate, it was in serious need of repair. With a small bank loan, he opened three B&B rooms, managing everything himself—despite a leaking roof and buckets in the attic to catch rainwater! It was a true labour of love, and the start of something much bigger.
2008 - 2011 - A beautiful adventure begins
Justin met Valerie, a French creative from Valmorel, while she was running a dairy farm in Cornwall. Together, they took on the huge challenge of renovating the house properly—fixing structural issues, matching the original charm, and doing much of the work themselves. Local craftspeople played a huge role, and the project became a community effort that laid the foundation for the venue as it is today.
2014 - The Luxury B&B with marquee weddings
2016 - Our Beautiful Barn Wedding Venue
The dream grew: why not build a purpose-built, weatherproof barn wedding venue in harmony with the landscape? And so the Pavilion was born—a beautiful barn venue with large wooden doors, rustic textures, and views across the Cornish countryside
2018 - The Roman Temples for our outdoor wedding ceremonies
Never ones to sit still, Justin and Valerie transformed an overgrown patch of garden next to the pond into a stunning outdoor wedding ceremony setting. The Roman temples were designed with both beauty and practicality in mind: an outdoor amphitheatre so every guest has a view, and two distinct structures for legal and celebratory parts of the day. The amphitheatre also makes the most of the golden hour, offering unforgettable photo opportunities.
