On today’s blog we are delighted to feature our Tredudwell couple Rose & Matt who chose lots of personalised wedding decor and little touches that meant the day was extra special to them at our barn wedding venue in Cornwall. We thought by sharing their ideas we could inspire you when decorating your Cornwall wedding. We were fascinated by how well thought out all the sights, sounds, smells and taste were all completely personalised. A new definition of personalised wedding decor, don’t you think?

Sometimes when you know, you know!
As Rose said: “This part of Cornwall holds very special meaning for Matt and I. My parents honeymooned in Lerryn in October 1990, and for as long as I can remember we would regularly make trips down to Lanteglos, making it a place that holds a lot of special memories. My parents now live in Polruan, and Matt and I got engaged on their boat down Pont Pill. It was therefore very important to both of us to be able to get married in a location so dear to us. We regular drive past Tredudwell, and from first contact to arrange a viewing, Hayley was brimming with excitement. I immediately had a good feeling before even looking round and booked the venue after looking round with my parents, before Matt even had a chance to see it! Sometimes when you know, you know!”

Rose & Matt chose a beautiful Cornish countryside theme with bright florals, shells and gorgeous Cornwall personalised wedding decor.

Personalised wedding decor idea – personalising your wedding outfit
The Veil
“When we first started planning the wedding, I wasn’t sure if I would want a veil, but after finding THE dress it quickly became something I wanted, but also an opportunity to create something unique and special. I wanted to create something meaningful that would become an heirloom veil that my little brother’s fiancée could wear, and then the future generations. Like the wedding, I wanted the veil to have a nautical theme with floral elements. With this in mind, I approached Daisy Sheldon Embroidery, having followed her on social media for some time and seen the incredible bespoke embroidery she has done for veils previously, including coastal motifs. I knew she would be perfect to help my vision come to life. Within the embroidery are 6 animal images (lobster, puffin, cat, seal, crab, otter), each one representing a member of our family. Surrounding these images is a beautiful mix of florals, corals and shells. This includes lots of flowers with special meaning to me – roses, peonies, apple blossom, bluebells, wisteria and finally myrtle. When I sent this wild collection of ideas through to Daisy I really didn’t know what to expect, but the draft of the veil I received back was perfect in every way! It was such a fun process and has created something unique and personal that I cannot wait to be seen worn in the future!”

The Bridal Shoes
“I have always wanted a pair of manolos. I’m a girl who loves shoes and handbags, what can I say? The wedding was therefore the perfect excuse to invest in my dream pair of shoes. I wanted to pick a colour that I would rewear again and again, which I knew I wouldn’t do with a pair of white shoes. Blue is my favourite colour and I therefore felt the shoes would make the perfect something blue whilst also meaning I would continue to wear them after the wedding. They also match my engagement ring, and the mother of the bride’s dress!”

The Perfume
“Smells can instantly trigger emotions and memories, and with this in mind, Matt and I wanted to pick new scents for the wedding day, that we could continue to wear for years to come to remind ourselves and each other of our wedding. We went to Jo Malone together to pick out new scents for the wedding, which was such a fun pre-wedding activity! I like a floral, light scent and therefore settled on their orange blossom perfume, whilst Matt stayed on the coastal theme and picked wood sage & sea salt. We have both thoroughly enjoyed wearing these scents after our wedding day and being reminded of how perfect the day was!”

Why was it important to you to add these personalised wedding decor ideas?
“Having all these personal details definitely made getting ready on the morning very special. Everyone staying at the house kept inspecting the veil after the first look, spotting the different animals and flowers within the embroidery, and this fascination continued throughout the wedding service and reception! I was so excited to wear the shoes and my new perfume for the first time on the wedding day, and have thoroughly enjoyed wearing both since! All these elements added special touches to the wedding morning as friends and family saw them for the first time and enjoyed the fun and personality they added to the day. I now get to be constantly reminded of people’s reactions and my own beautiful wedding morning, church service and reception through having created a collection of items that I can continue to use and enjoy (and lend out to family in the case of the veil!).”

How did you personalise your wedding ceremony?
“It was very important to us that we had a church wedding. The beautiful 14th century church of St Wyllow at Langeglos by Fowey is only minutes away from Tredudwell, and as my parents live in the parish was the perfect location. We thoroughly enjoyed the process of planning the church wedding, picking hymns and readings that were meaningful to us, designing the order of service to include personal touches, and finally having the Polperro Wreckers singing during the service.”

Choosing Tredudwell as a backdrop to add personalised wedding decor was perfect
“We thoroughly enjoyed making the day truly our own. We knew we wanted to use local Cornwall wedding suppliers and therefore were careful to approach people who were based in Cornwall. We had a vision of what we wanted the wedding to look like, and how we wanted the day to feel for our guests, and therefore lots of our decisions were made with this in mind.”

About working with Tredudwell
“Hayley and the team at Tredudwell were fabulous when it came to the planning process. They were truly there to enable our vision and it really did play out perfectly on the day! All our enthusiasm and excitement about planning our day was constantly matched by Hayley and the team.”
“From the start of our wedding planning process, Hayley and her team have been absolutely extraordinary! The setting and venue are incredible and speak for themselves, but the quick and easy communication of the Tredudwell team really made the whole process a joy! Hayley even managed to ensure the bar had my favourite Tarquin’s gin to serve! On the day, the team blended seamlessly into the background of all the fun being had. We could not have asked for a more perfect day! Thank you all so so much ❤️”

How we personalised our food & drink choices
“Good food was extremely important to us on the wedding day, and we therefore enjoyed having the freedom to choose from a selection of caterers who work with Tredudwell. We had the wonderful Richard McGeown cater for the wedding, who truly brought our vision to life, getting people talking over large bowls of food, and celebrating local produce! We planned a menu of sharing platters, served to each table on big wooden boards, which worked perfectly on the day.

For dessert, we had an ice cream van set up outside the manor house, which everyone loved and was very refreshing since the weather was warm!
Late night food was supplied by Richard at Sarah’s Pasties from Looe (which we have all agreed are the best pasty locally). These were served alongside cream buttercream with bright florals (a mix of fresh and dried florals) made by local wedding cake supplier Yummy Cakes Liskeard.

For drinks: we sourced the fizz and wine ourselves, picking the wines that Matt and I enjoy drinking at home. Throughout the reception, the Tredudwell bar was open supplying alternative drinks for those who didn’t want fizz. With Hayley, we put together a funded bar menu, including Matt’s Choice (Guinness), Rose’s Choice (Tarquins G&T with the Tredudwell team having managed to source Rose’s favourite flavour of Tarqins!), and Let’s Party shots (Baby Guiness shots which were regularly being ordered by the trayful!). This funded bar menu continued into the evening and definitely was to blame for some sore heads the following morning!”

What kind of personal touches did you love adding to your wedding at Tredudwell?
“Every part of the day felt like something we had created and that made it all very special. Our table names were all watercolour paintings of significant locations in our lives, behind the cake were lots of pictures of our relationship hung on fairy lights, the bouquets were on display around the venue in Cornishware pots that usually belong in Rose’s and Rose’s Mum’s kitchen, the audio guest book means we have clips of everyone’s voices throughout the night, and in a last minute Euros 2024 inspired moment, there was a table football table out on the lawn – brides vs grooms (made by Rose). All these details meant that you could not get away from the fact this day was about us, and our personalities were everywhere!
My favourite part of the day was walking down the aisle with my darling dad to the Polperro Wreckers singing ‘Cornwall my Home’, and seeing Matt turn around and shed a tear. Matt’s favourite moment was the ice cream van! (of course!)”
